Travel Tips

BE FLEXIBLE

We always plan for delays and try not to get upset when things inevitably go wrong. Patience is extremely important when traveling!

MAKE A LIST

About a week or so before each trip, make a mental list of items you don’t want to forget which you WILL forget if you don’t write them down. When you think of something, you need to write it down.

LEARN COMMON PHRASES OF THE LOCAL LANGUAGE

Learn simple greeting words like Molo, Sawubona and additional slang words like lekker, now now, howzit, Remember that South Africans also call traffic lights robots, petrol stations garage and refer to barbeques as braai

DON’T FORGET AN EXTRA POWERBANK

Have you ever gotten to that epic sunset photo spot and realized your phone battery is dead and you don’t have a back up? Try to bring at least one power bank and if you have a camera you may consider bringing extra batteries on all of our trips so that we don’t miss out on that perfect shot..

ALWAYS BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE

A medical emergency can wipe out your savings, as a traveler you need to make sure that you have travel insurance in case of unforeseen occurrences.

SAFETY PRECAUTION

If you have not hired a car always take an Uber to avoid getting lost and being vulnerable. If you are staying at main tourist areas it is advisable not to flash your valuables when you are out and about.

TIPPING IN SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa has its own tipping culture, at restaurants tips usually range from 10% to 15% and if you’re hiring a car in South Africa, you’ll come across car guards who are people who will watch your car for you while you run your errands in exchange for tip. As a kind gesture you can also tip petrol attendants.

HAVE SOME CASH ON YOU

Credit cards are widely used in South Africa however it is also advisable that you have some cash with you throughout your trip. It is best to withdraw cash from the ATM when you arrive and you will get a better exchange rate from the machines than by using a currency exchange service at the airport.
